Lhasa - Kathmandu Mountain Bike Tour
Biking on the roof of the world and to the base camp of Mt Everest –this is an ultimate biking adventure . The Lhasa Kathmandu mountain bike tour offers chances to deeply appreciate the beauty of the Tibetan land and its culture and know its people closely . This is the only tour that enables you to reach to the base camp of mt Everest in a bicycle !
Arriving in Kathmandu , you enjoy the tour of exotic Kathmandu and fly to Lhasa . It is a dramatic flight across the Himalayas . For a couple of days we tour around Lhasa and acclimatize against high altitude .
The Lhasa kathmandu mountain bike tour then takes us through the ancient cities of Shigatse and Gyantse , beautiful lakes and crosses five high passes above 5000 m . While cycling this 1000 km trail on the roof of the world , we make a steep descent of 4600 m , the highest in any mountain bike tour in the world and also visit the spectacular northern base camp of Mt Everest before reaching Kathmandu .
Cycling in the remote corner of the Himalayas amidst fluttering Buddhist flags on the high passes , visiting ancient monasteries or gazing on the spectacular Himalayan peaks- it is a trip of a lifetime – rewarding as well as challenging.
Itinerary – Lhasa Kathmandu Biking Tour
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to hotel ( 1350 m )
Day 02: Kathmandu guided sightseeing tour . Equipments checking .
Day 03: Fly to Lhasa from Kathmandu. Free day on your own in Lhasa
Day 04: Guided sightseeing tour in Lhasa .
Day 05: Second day of tour in Lhasa .
Day 06: Start of the biking tour .Cycle Lhasa to the base of Kambala pass. Total ride 86 kms. Camp altitude 3608 m
Day 07: Cross Kamba La Pass 4807 m. and camp after 56 kms.
Day 08: Cycle to camp before Karo La pass 5032 m
Day 09: Cross Karo La pass to Gyangtse 4048 m .Ride 86 kms.
Day 10: Gyangtse to Shigatse 3850 m. Ride 106 kms.
Day 11: Cross Cho La pass 4050 m and camp after 75 kms.
Day 12: Continue and camp after Lhatse 95 kms.
Day 13: Cross Gyatso La pass 5220 m . Camp at Shegar 80 kms.
Day 14: Cross Pang La Pass 5200m . Camp after 65 kms.
Day 15: Continue. Rongbuk Monastery . Camp 35 kms.
Day 16: Visit Everest Base Camp. Camp at Rongbuk.
Day 17: Camp before Tingri. 76 kms.
Day 18: Cycle to base of Lalung la pass 5009 m .
Day 19: Lalung- La pass to Zhangmu 117kms.
Day 20: Zhangmu to Nepal boarder and continue to Dhulikhel.
Day 21: Morning drive to Kathmandu. Free day on your own .
Day 22: Fly back home / onward destination .
Price: In order for us to quote you the price , write us with number of persons in your group, and the category of hotels you would like to stay .
Notes: We normally keep you in three star hotel in Kathmandu , Lhasa , Shigatse and Gayante and few other places where hotels are available. Rest of the places we offer tented camps for accommodation and our camp cook prepares hot meals.
The team comprises experienced cycling guide and a supporting team following you on a truck with camp cook , kitchen staffs and logistic supports .
We take proper care about your health and safety, specially the altitude sickness .
Though we would try our best to stick to the original itinerary, we may need to make some amendments on the itinerary due to weather condition and physical state of the team members.
You are advised to prepare against extreme coldness , altitude issues and lots of physical exertion. This is quite a challenging trip.
Depending on your ability and interest , we can extend the trip by a couple of days e.g for a practice day around Lhasa and also for more acclimatization or for a rest day in Shigatse .
